Novels & Plays

The site contains three novels, a novella, a play and a few short stories. Each work is preceded by an introduction outlining the motives and circumstances involved in its making. Reviews of the work, if and when available, can be seen in the Reviews & Interviews Section. Readers are encouraged to share their thoughts on any of these works by visiting the Comments Section.

The works included are:

  • The Descent, a novel written in 1994 (February), last chapter added in November 1997.

  • The Frog That Flew, a novel, first written in Arabic in 1995 (February), and then re-written in English in 1997 (October).

  • Menstruation, a novel, written in 1998 (February). It was published by Saqi Books in London in 2001, and hence translated into several languages including: Spanish, Dutch, French, Italian, and Japanese. Menstruation is AA’s only regularly published novel, so far. Only the final chapter of this novel is to be found here so as to respect the copyright arrangements with Saqi Books. The Final Chapter itself has been deleted in the print version due to the editor’s reservations.

  • A Final Testament of a Most Unlikely Messiah, a novella, written in early 2000. It was initially meant as an independent work, but a connection of sorts was made to The Frog That Flew at the end.

  • The Shoes, a play, written in 1997 (November), based on a traditional Arab folktale and an idea that first occurred to the author in 1987.

  • The Whore With The Trillion Vulvas, a long novel, written between November 1999 and February 2000. It is currently being published in weekly episodes.

The site also contains the following short stories:

Freedom

Have you really forgotten who I am, Brother? Have you really forgotten who I am, Brother?

I

lust

for

salvation,

 Brother,

as

though

it

were

a

woman,

and

I
