The Voidman
Introduction
The Voidman is Ammar's first published work. It is a collection of poems written in
the period between 1992-1995. It was first published in London by a small British subsidy
published that unfortunately went bankrupt in early 1999. AA, then, had the book reprinted
in Beirut and Damascus in 2000 through the auspices of the underground publisher The
Fighting Dwarf Press. Despite the low profile of this whole venture, The Voidman
was well received in certain "avant-guarde" circles and paved the way for the
future publication of
Menstruation.
Freud
described the therapeutic process as one in which layers of consciousness were gradually
removed until the unconscious was reached. [But Allen Wheelis] found that after the layers
were peeled, there was often nothing a great void that the analyst, though
called upon to do so, could not possibly fill.
